What do I do if I get a decision of R&R?

What is an R&R?

A revise & resubmit decision means that the editors are asking you to make changes to your manuscript — these suggestions are often laid out in the decision letter itself.

You’ll be notified of the journal's decision via the notifications menu (megaphone icon), the editors also have the option of sending you an email to notify you about their decision, or you can go to "My Manuscripts", then "Manage submission" to determine its status.

How do I submit my revised manuscript?

To submit your newly revised manuscript you can either click the prompt on the notification megaphone, navigate to My Manuscripts and click either option to "Submit Revised Manuscript", or go to My Manuscripts > then click "Manage Submission" on the manuscript that has been given the Revise and Resubmit decision. Once you're on your manuscript details page, click "Submit a revised manuscript".

Will I have a deadline to submit my revision?

Some journals set a deadline for authors to submit their revised manuscripts. If your journal has set a Revise & Resubmit (R&R) deadline, you'll see it displayed alongside your pending R&R reminder on the My Manuscripts page (e.g., "Resubmit by: June 15, 2026 at 5:00 PM EST").

If a deadline has been set, the deadline will be included in your decision letter and you'll receive periodic email reminders as the deadline approaches. If the deadline passes without a resubmission, your revision will be marked as late.

Note: Not all journals use revision deadlines. If you don't see a deadline displayed, the journal has not set one for your submission.

What if I forget and try to submit my revised manuscript as a new submission entirely?

Not to worry! When your manuscript has a decision of R&R and you attempt to create a new submission to that same journal, you'll be reminded that you currently have a submission that is waiting for its revision.
